Cross Cord

Mam Phys: Confused with spinal cord?
I'm having a hard time identifying the specific parts of the gray matter in the spinal cord. Looking at my picture, it shows a person facing the opposite direction showing his back. They then took a cross-section of the spinal cord and are showing the different parts of the "horn". The section that would be closer to his abdomen is termed "dorsal root". Why wouldn't that be the ventral? I thought that ventral referred to the front.
"The section that would be closer to his abdomen is termed "dorsal root"."
No. The spinous processes of the vertebra, the "spiky bits", are pointing out the back, dorsal, posterior. The dorsal root is on that side, and the ventral root on the other, so that makes sense. The curvature of the spine may be tricking you or a bad pic. Pics below with a head in it are clear!
