Enamel Medal

What medal are these?

Is it even a real medal? It has a white enameled Maltest cross with gilded gold borders, with an American seal at the center. It came with a black ribbon.

The second one doesn't even look American, it's pretty big.

I got both of these as a gift.
I think the first has the Great Seal-ish center, and it should be American.

Neither medal is an official US military decoration.

The first has strong resemblance to medals given by the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) organization. It is a maltese cross with the Great Seal of the US in the center. The standard VFW medal has a a red border around the cross perimeter and the words "veterans of foreign wars of the united states" around the Great Seal part. The black ribbon may not be original.

The second medal is a Lion Rampant insignia and it is a very common symbol found in any number of principalities or social orders. I am fairly certain that it is not American. Likewise I doubt that it is British either. I suspect that it is a medal or decoration by foreign governments to servicemen of other countries in appreciation/recognition of their service. As such, if awarded to an American serviceman, it could be worn on his uniform, but below all his American medals/ribbons. Since it is big, it may be a badge instead of a medal. Foreign awarded badges can also be worn below American medals.

Both seem to be of sufficient quality to be a significant award for something. Good luck.
