Orthodox Icon Saint

Catholics, ORthodox, and anyone else who is not fundy?
a question if you will.
Me and my fiance were discussing different things, when the topic of rosaries came up. Not whether it was good or bad to use them, but to wear them. one of our theology professors at our college, wears one around his neck, which she finds utterly distasteful. since, as she put it, there are no paintings icons or illustrations that show any saint wearing a rosary. However I have an aunt in the convent, and one of her fellow sisters wears a rosary around the neck, and shes about the least egotistical person I know.
your thoughts please?
It's a cultural thing, mostly.
I know from friends who make mission rosaries that in Africa and many other areas, people wear their rosaries around their necks for the simple reason that they don't have much in this world and what they do have they want to keep. It's perfectly acceptable there.
In most Western countries, though, it's customary to keep a rosary in one's pocket or purse and not wear it, because it can be construed by others that it's just being worn as a fashion accessory. Many view it as a disrespectful way to treat a blessed sacramental.
The exception would be, as you noted, those in religious life; but then they usually also wear a habit, so it's understood that if they wear a rosary it's a matter of devotion.
