How to frame/mount oil painting on canvas painted 10yrs ago?
We came across 2 large oil paintings painted on canvas but were not stretched - they were painted more than 10yrs ago.
How do I go about mounting these without causeing damage to the painting. Also there was a bend in the canvas and the oil paint has slightly creased/splintered (almost coming off) do you know how to repair this or do I leave it alone thanks for all advice.

Sinc the pieces are about ten years old, they probably are quite modern. The stretcher frame can do just fine and you can hang them without any frame surrounding them.
Personally, I prefer the frame. But do try to steer away from the normal gilded frame. The professional will advise you to pick up on one colour that is in the painting that makes the picture plus frame an integrated whole.
I once bought a lovely picture, full of blue, representing a wave rolling in with a surf board rider. Very modern. A school pupil's art class project, I considered. It cost 50 cents. It cost $500 dollars to have it framed, and that was ten years ago.
The frame was made in white timber, with appliqued little fancy scrolls over it in a melee which picked up on the concept of waves.
Now, I am not necessarily saying to you to spend $500. Most peoole would not dream of spending that much but most people do not appreciate how that 50 cent painting is now worth $5,000, either. I just wish that school child could have seen his/her work after I had made it appreciated. I'm sure it would have given them the biggest morale booster ever.
Don't be put off by what I have mentioned to you, either. take your paintings along with you, discuss it with the expert and he can give you accurate costings.
You will not be able to wait to see what they look like. Just do it.
