Rome, capital of Italy, is one of Italy’s most beautiful cities, full with wonderful, unique monuments. Rome is a city to visit at your leisure not to miss every single beauty of the city.
In this city there are really several monuments, Rome is really unique in its genre. We start from the Imperial Forum and the Roman Forum. Going on we arrive at the Saints Cosma and Damiano Basilica, the Church of Saint Roman Frances, and in the end one of the symbol of Rome, the Coliseum. They are all easy reachable from the lucky tourists that can rent a flat in the centre of Rome. In ancient times called “Amphitheatre Flavioâ€, once it was the perfect location for shows and fights. Other roman beauties are the Doria Pamphily Palace, located on one of the capital most important road: Via del Corso. In the neighbourhood there is also Piazza di Spagna and the Steps of the Trinity of the Mounts. Worth to see is also Via Condotti, where the main protagonist is shopping, then Borghese Palace, the Borsa Palace and the headquarters of the government with Montecitorio Palace and the house of Deputies.
Now we move to the Campidoglio (place of the Capitol Hill) where we can visit the New Palace, the Conservators Palace and the Senators Palace. Absolutely not to miss is the Victorian Complex that holds the Altare della Patria (Altar of the Fatherland) and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. An obligated visit is also the one along the Tiber and then towards the other beauties: the Pantheon, the Trevi Fountain, Navona Square, Piazza di Spagna, Saint Peter’s Basilica, the Vatican Palaces, the Capitoline Museums that collect a lot of paints from the 14th to the 18th century. Feasts and events organized by the various owners of villas and apartments in Rome are really numerous.
We just point out the ones we consider the most important. In January it is celebrated the “Benediction of animals†in the Church of Saint Eusebio. Today just family pets such as cats and dogs are blessed but in ancient times the protagonists were donkeys and horses. In March there is the “Benediction of the Carsâ€. This typical roman tradition goes back to the thirties. In May we point out the event called “Shavuotâ€, one of the main Jewish celebrations. Also in May and always until the day of the Ascension, another tradition is the “Visit to the seven churchesâ€, of which four major basilicas. The seven churches where roman people go during this occasion are the following: the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, San Lorenzo outside the walls, Saint Paul Outside the Walls, San Sebastiano outside the walls, Santa Croce in Gerusalemme, the basilica of San Giovanni in Lateran and of St. Peter in Vatican. Another noteworthy event, that every year attracts a lot of people is New Year’s Eve in Rome, but there are many other feast, initiatives and events around the city. It is impossible to point them all out. I summed up just a few of Rome’s beauties and events.
To visit Rome one day is not enough, and also the rush, so if you can it is always better to book for a dozens of days in one of the many Piazza Navona apartments.
