Many religions have idols.

Even though they preach against idols, Christians have either Crucifixes or Crosses. (Catholics also have stations of the cross and statues.)

Jews and Muslims have their books (Torah or Quran).

Is there something about humans engaged in worship that requires something on which to center your attention?

This is actually an important question; the answer is yes.

The mind is very fickle. It will easily wonder about. Having an object of focus allows it to, well, focus

Depending on what you're trying to achieve, you can have different objects of focus. You can pick anything really if you're just trying to train the mind to focus. This in of itself it an important way to train your mind, but you can also have 'religious' objects if you are trying to focus on particular trait you're trying to understand or realize in yourself.

So, focusing on a compassionate and loving Jesus for example allows us to become more compassionate and loving.

This is different then idol worship though. Idol worship is just superstition.

Should Judas (the one who betrayed jesus) be Praised?

Judas is known for betraying christ so he would be killed on the cross... Now even with orthodox text why should Judas be condemned for this if modern christians believe that christ died for our sins so that we can be saved. And that belief is the VERY CORE of christianity... So without Judas betraying christ, then in the modern christian belief we would ALL BURN IN HELL IN ETERNAL TORMENT... But intstead judas is thought of as, essentially, evil...but without this "evil" act we would all go to hell (in christian belief)...

Now there is actually a gospel of judas which has been legitamatly dated back to the time of the other gospels... and in this gospel, christ ordered Judas to betray him... Judas did not want to however christ convinced him that it was, essentially, for the greater good...

So with these things in mind, why is judas so hated?
@Aleyhey - So How does that make sense... Especially if you considered that Christ may have literally ordered him to

struggle between good and evil will always before the second comeing, of Christ. Jesus says, that if you follow him and listen to his words, people will hate you. And have you ever thought how many people hated Jesus? So even if Judas didn’t betray, someone would cenrtainly did it, it was not only one Judas in the world, and high priests and Pharisees could arrest sooner or later without Judas.
And death of Jesus was inevitablebecause as I said struggle between good and evil will always before the second comeing.

What does idolatry mean?

I always thought idolatry is (a) an image, scultpure or other REPRESENTATION of God or anything to do with heaven or hell. Jesus paintings, icons and statues are such representations. Or, is idolatry (b) making an object and worshipping it as though it itself is God?

If (a) is correct, then there are a lot of idolaters around, including christians, hindus, buddhists, animists and more. If (b) is correct, then I think there are virtually no idolaters in this world, since even ancient Roman and Greek statutes were never believed to be a God like Zeus himself- they were just a point of reference to focus energy on Zeus.

Bought a new Cross Necklace.....?

I was baptized when I was very young and was given a gold cross - I lost my cross years ago and I was told to get a new cross and take it to church first before I wear it. Does this mean the cross gets baptized or something - or has some prayer given to it? My old cross was baptized along with me when I was just born. Mom is Russian, Dad is Ukrainian - all of us are Russian Orthodox - Including me.

Any help would be great.

It is important that the cross would be the orthodox form.

If you buy a cross in the shop at orthodox church, it does not need sanctify it.
If you have purchased a jewelry store, then take it to orthodox church, to an Orthodox priest blessed it.

How could I make my own clay or concrete christian cross?

I saw this really cool hanging cross that is concrete and it has rocks placed in it and writing engraved.... I want to make something like this, how hard would that be? I was thinking of using glass instead of rocks. Is there a way I could make a mold and then poor concrete into it or something? I can easily pick up supplies at Michael's or something... help

This is only a partial answer. Because clay and concrete are both highly breakable, you will need to form an armature first, around which to construct your cross. Something like an old coat hanger would do, if you can get the straight bits straight enough.

On the horizontal arms, I'd suggest adding a loop at each end. The vertical arms should have a kind of loop at both ends too. (The bottom one is to prevent the clay, if it breaks, from slipping off.)

Then to hang the finished result, you could easily put fishing line or a chain (probably not string) from the three top loops to suspend it with some degree of stability.

There is also very lightweight acrylic "clay" which can be baked in the oven once finished. These come in a variety of colours and can make really pretty sculptures -- and probably would be light enough to avoid a complete armature. (I'd still make the horizontal one, with loops at the end.)

Jesus Christ-How much pain did Jesus feel when he died on the cross & how do I feel the pain he felt?

I want to see how much pain Jesus felt?

You’d be pushing it to feel the pain that Jesus felt.

Here’s why.

Firstly , he knew what was about to happen to him, and being human , as he prayed to God the Father the night before his arrest, to ask for guidance and courage, he was so emotionally intense about it, he literally sweated blood.

This is a known medical condition, called hematidrosis, in which the capillaries and blood vessels burst near the surface of the skin under extreme emotional stress and mingle with the sweat.

This causes the sufferer absolute agony when even touched, let alone flogged within an inch of his life.

Jesus wanted to be sure to suffer to the utmost degree for us.

As for the scourging, it was barbaric. The whip was made of many thin leather strips, with razor sharp edges, joined with pieces of jagged bone between them every few inches, and lead weights tied at the end to make sure they wrapped around the body, so that when the whip was pulled back, strips of flesh were ripped off in stripes.

What makes it worse, they did not expect Jesus to be so determined, because as the scriptures tell us, he uttered not a word.

Can you imagine that, 40 savage blows, with the first few, not a sound from him. What do you think the Roman soldier would do?

Try harder, of course, which he did to such an extent in order to get a reaction, that Jesus was almost pulped, his face and body ripped apart, muscle and sinew showing.

In fact, he was so bashed, bruised and beaten, that witnesses who stood by as he staggered to the cross had to turn away.

Then the crucifixion, absolute unbearable pain, as for several hours, he fought, gasping and struggling in agony for every breath, until the end.

During that time he experienced absolute terror.

Why? Because every sin ever committed by humanity in the past, and in the future, went through his mind and psyche, for all those hours.

It was so satanically disgusting and traumatic that God, his Father could not bear to behold it.

So don’t ever tell me it was a piece of cake, ho hum, nothing to it.

He, the one who made us (John 1:1) did this for us, he went all the way…. a real man!!!
